How many days are in each month?

Seven. The month numbers page lists all twelve with abbreviations and origins.
Why do some months have 31 days?
The pattern comes from the Roman calendar and its later adjustments, including the renaming of two months for Julius Caesar and Augustus, rather than from any systematic scheme.

Why does September mean seventh?
Because the Roman year originally began in March, making September the seventh month. The name survived when January and February were added at the start.
Are three-letter month abbreviations standard?
In English yes, but they differ by language, which is why numeric months are safer in data.

Why do fiscal quarters differ from calendar quarters?
Because organisations choose a financial year-end that suits their trading cycle, so their Q1 starts whenever their year does.
